My Story
Quincy L. Leonard (LEO Golf Academy Founder; Valiant Cross Academy Golf Coach; Central Alabama Sports Commission Board Member; U.S. Kids Golf Montgomery Tour Director; GPS (Golf Program in Schools) Hosting Golf Course Academy Director; Jim Thorpe Invitational Junior Golf Tournament Director) has more than 22 years of golfing experience and has been coaching youth golf for the past 14 years. Quincy, for the second time, has received honorable mention recognition from U.S. Kids Golf, landing him on their annual Top 50 Kids Teacher Award. The Award recognizes the world’s most outstanding youth golf instructors and Coach Leonard is part of this select group who have earned honorable mention accolades among more than 500 applicants. Quincy is also a 2023 African American Golfers Hall of Fame Inductee.
During his years in Montgomery, Quincy has developed the golf instruction program for the City of Montgomery, Montgomery Public School System, and various organizations in the surrounding area. LEO Golf Academy offers high level golf instruction to area youth through private lessons, group golf clinics, and local tours. He now has groups of boys and girls attend clinics once a month. Coach Leonard is currently coaching students from the Montgomery Therapeutic Recreation Center (MTRC) with physical and mental disabilities and the champions have competed and won in Special Olympics Golf events. He also hosts golf sessions with various schools in the Montgomery Public School (MPS) System during the school year and during the summer for elementary and middle school kids. His clinics are growing tremendously, and he has coached several juniors in the Montgomery Area, the majority of which are working through the U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program.
His engaging coaching methods have brought success and a love for the game to thousands who have studied with him. In February 2017, Leonard was named as the US Kids Golf Montgomery Tour Director. While serving as U.S. Kids Golf Montgomery Tour Director, Quincy has hosted over 120 events which allowed 4000 juniors to participate. Coach Leonard, through his LEO Golf Academy, has continued to offer high-level golf instruction to area youth with private lessons, group golf clinics, and local tours. His strong industry knowledge is a benefit to boys and girls who have been under his tutelage.
